Daisy Shah slams poll campaigners after fire breaks out near Mumbai home

Bollywood actress Daisy Shah publicly criticised election campaigners after a fire broke out near her home in Bandra East, Mumbai. She shared multiple videos and messages on Instagram, accusing campaign teams of irresponsible behaviour and calling for accountability after what she says was a firecracker-triggered blaze during ongoing election campaigning.

What happened near Daisy Shah’s home

In the first video Shah posted, she filmed a residential flat engulfed in flames and described what she saw. She claimed about 200 people were campaigning in the area when a firecracker set off by one of the teams flew into a neighbouring apartment and started the fire.

“This is done by stupid people… Where is people’s civic sense? They burst rockets just because an election is happening in Bandra East,” she said, stressing that many residents in the locality, including elderly people, were at risk.

    Campaigners fled the scene

Shah said the campaigners who allegedly caused the blaze left before anyone could hold them accountable. “Those people who caused this fire have run away … My house is right next to this, so I had to get out,” she told viewers while capturing the tense moments and the immediate danger to the community.

Why Daisy Shah condemned the practice

In a follow-up clip, Shah questioned the need to burst firecrackers during election drives, especially in densely populated residential areas.

“I understand that it’s election time and people are running campaigns. But where is the rule that they have to burst firecrackers while campaigning?” she asked, pointing out that fireworks being set off at every building they entered only increases the risk of accidents.

She also revealed that the house that caught fire belonged to a civil servant and was empty at the time. Shah said that because no one was home to act quickly, the fire escalated before it could be controlled.

    Public reaction and Shah’s appeal

Shah made clear she has no political affiliation and that her comments stem from concern for public safety, not politics. In her Instagram caption she wrote a blunt appeal for common sense from campaign teams.

“I have got nothing to do with any political party!!! But when you hire teams to run campaigns for your elections, please make sure they have some common sense in them,” she wrote.

Followers echoed her call for responsible campaigning. Many supported her demand that people recognise the dangers of using fireworks close to homes and urged for stricter oversight during election events.

    A direct warning

Shah’s post included a stark message to those involved: “It ain’t a natural calamity, it’s caused by brainless people. TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY … IT’S HIGH TIME.” She used the incident to push for greater awareness and for campaign organisers to rethink risky publicity tactics in residential neighbourhoods.

    Takeaway

The episode in Bandra East highlights the fine line between festive campaigning and public safety. As election activity intensifies across the city, Shah’s message is a reminder that celebrations involving fireworks in crowded areas can turn dangerous quickly — and that organisers must be held responsible for the teams they hire.
